Pokemon Legends: Arceus Actually Has Good Hairstyles

Saying that Pokemon has struggled to adapt to changes in the RPG genre is probably the coldest take there is. But one area in which that is especially true is character customization. It always seems to be one step forward, one step back. X & Y introduced some fun options, but they didn't carry over into Omega Ruby & Alpha Saphire. Similarly, we got great choices in Sword & Shield, but just a few set outfits in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Thankfully, the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus will right this wrong.

As seen in the latest trailer, Legends: Arceus will feature a bunch of customization options for our old-timey gen 4 trainers. Most excitingly, this includes a variety of hairstyles, with different lengths, colours and textures.

Yesterday's trailer takes a quick break from the action towards the end to show off the customization options, which is obviously the best bit. Here, we get a glimpse at some of the hairstyle options, but it looks like there's more to unlock. Basic styles include short, long, pixie cut, curled, braids, and survey corps style – which gives you a faction-based hair accessory. While this isn't a far cry from the Sword & Shield offerings, it's still a promising start, especially when spin-offs have kept the options incredibly limited.

Full customization options are explained at the 10:20 mark in the trailer, so check it out for yourself below.

Despite the trainers being pretty much identical, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl doesn't let you change the hair on its own. Some of the outfits you can buy in Veilstone City will change your hair, but it comes as part of a set. Oh, and you can't dye your hair like you will be able to do in Legends: Arceus, so I hope you like what you picked at the start – because I don't.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set to launch in just two weeks, January 28. It will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
