The first Mythical Pokemon to join the Pokemon Unite roster, Hoopa comes with a kit that’s far more suited to the type of high-level play you’d expect in competitive environments, and it certainly feels like it’s been designed precisely with that in mind.
As such, it takes some getting used to playing Hoopa, but once mastered it will prove to be a key addition to your team. What’s more, Hoopa is a Pokemon that can potentially have a sizeable damage output, surprising your opponents and leading to total domination.
Hoopa has the look of a genie, and putting in the grind to master this Mythical maestro using our build guide and tips will certainly bring some magic to your game!
Pokemon Unite Hoopa Build Guide: Best Moves
Hoopa’s moveset is incredibly complex, certainly causing us a headache trying to work out the best build and playstyle. It’s a Pokemon that requires you to think ahead, and more importantly be completely in sync with your teammates.
For your Move 1 upgrade, Shadow Ball just edges out Phantom Force for sheer utility. While the extra mobility of Phantom Force is great, the on-hit slow and Sp. Def reduction offered by Shadow Ball, and the rather overpowered stun if you quickly follow up with an auto-attack, is just too good to pass up.
We’ve opted for Hyperspace Hole for the Move 2 upgrade, a big-brain play that can and will turn the tide of battle for your team. You can use it to surprise enemies or help your stricken teammates escape, or even steal Drednaw and Zapdos with perfect timing and little effort. It’s one of the most difficult moves in the game to master, in our opinion, but certainly one of the most game-changing.
While Hoopa has significant damage potential, you ultimately don’t always want to intrude on your Attackers’ ability to pump out the big numbers, since there are too many yolo merchants in solo queue for that. Given the Unbound Ring Unite Move turns Hoopa into an incredible tank for a short while, you want to be focused on aiding your teammates as much as possible and this moveset makes you an incredible initiator.
Pokemon Unite Hoopa Build Guide: Best Items
There are several ways you could equip Hoopa based on how much damage you want to output, but given we want to actually support our teammates we’ve gone for something much more utility-focused.
Your Rings Unbound Unite Move is your bread and butter, so Energy Amplifier makes a lot of sense. Having a significant cooldown reduction for your biggest game-changer, as well as for Hyperspace Hole, could be the difference between winning and losing a teamfight. The damage bump when using your Unite move is nice, too.
Buddy Barrier syncs incredibly well with Rings Unbound too, especially in invade-type plays. The last thing you want is your glass-cannon Attacker going down immediately after teleporting with this Unite Move, so the shield this item offers gives your team an overall advantage when contesting the likes of Zapdos.
Finally, we’ve gone with the Score Shield. You’ll be scooping up excess points littered across the map, so the extra shield when trying to deposit them in an enemy goal is more than welcome.
As for the Battle Item, we’ve opted for the Eject Button. It’s the safe choice for many Pokemon and offers a little more mobility. Not that Hoopa needs it, but as we’re focusing more on utility and supporting your team rather than pure damage output, it’s the logical choice.
Pokemon Unite Hoopa Build Guide: Best Playstyle
The key to being effective on Hoopa is mastery over its teleport-based abilities, Hyperspace Hole and Rings Unbound. It’s best played in the bottom lane, where you’ll just want to poke the enemy as much as possible for that bonus on every third auto-attack.
Hyperspace Hole allows you to be a bit more daring in your engagements with the enemy. Even when the enemy jungler comes down to gank, you don’t have to preemptively or instantly back off.
Instead, your lane partner can go all-in, with your Shadow Ball offering great engage and chase potential, and Hyperspace Hole acting as a buffer to get you both out easily. Take advantage of the move’s return option to re-engage, fully rested and restored.
When it comes to Rings Unbound, you’ll certainly need all your team on the same page. Laying siege to a Boss Pokemon or the final enemy goal is easy, and your team can group up in a heartbeat.
You’ll want to take advantage of the modified Hyperspace Fury and Psybeam moves to deal tons of damage, acting as a kind of frontline tank — there’s a ton of extras that come with these, such as a disable, tons of AoE damage, and immunity to crowd control. Shock and awe!
