A little over seven months following launch, Pokemon Unite finally has its first playable Mythical Pokemon. New supporter Hoopa is the latest to be added to the ever-expanding roster, and could prove to be an effective selection in high-level games. However, you won’t be able to just pick Hoopa up in the in-game shop for Aeos Gems or Coins like with most new releases. Instead, you’ll have to play through the Hoopa Special Event.
Thankfully, the Hoopa Special Event is easily accessible for all players, more focused on spending time in the game rather than completing overly difficult tasks within a battle. However, you’ll need to be quick – the event ends on March 14, 2022.
Accessing The Hoopa Special Event
To get started, click the Special Event icon in the bottom centre of the home screen. This will take you to the event’s home screen, resplendent in pink and other pastel colours.
There are two components here: the Kitchen and the Hyperspace Box Challenge. You can switch between the two using the L and R buttons.
The Hyperspace Box Challenge is pretty straightforward: each day you can select and open one box, with Aeos Tickets and Item Enhancers the typical rewards. You may even get the chance to open up a second box.
The Kitchen is where you’ll need to be for Hoopa. Along the bottom of the event’s home screen, you’ll see a battle pass-like row of rewards, starting with some Aeos Tickets and ending with the Unite License for Hoopa.
Completing Missions
To unlock these rewards, you’ll need to bake the required number of Donuts. These use Donut Flour, which is earned from completing Missions. It’s important to note that these numbers refer to the number of Donuts you’ll need to make in total, rather than an amount for a single reward.
To the right of the event home screen you’ll see two sections, Ingredients and Recipe. You can see how much Donut Flour you have in the Ingredients section, while clicking on the Get Ingredients button will show you the different Missions available.
The Special Mission changes daily and focuses on a specific challenge to complete while in battles. Examples include scoring a certain number of goals, winning battles by a set number of points, and taking down the Legendary or Boss Pokemon that pop up. This will net you 60 Donut Flour.
The Daily Missions remain the same each day. You’ll need to play a total of five battles, and for this, you’ll earn a whopping 140 Donut Flour.
Making Donuts
To make a donut, you’ll need 20 Donut Flour. When you have enough, click the Bake button under the Recipe section to make a Donut. You’ll be able to create up to five Donuts at a time.
As a bonus, you’ll even earn 25 Aeos Tickets per Donut made.
With the Flour on offer from the Missions, you can make up to ten Donuts per day. So, if you’re disciplined, you’ll have that Hoopa Unite License in just five days.
To make things a little easier, players may find an apology message in their in-game inbox dated March 1. One of the compensation items is a stack of 200 Donut Flour, meaning you’ll save a whole day’s worth of Missions in your quest to obtain Hoopa.
Once you've reached a milestone in making Donuts, you'll be able to claim that reward from the ticker along the bottom of the event homepage. Hit the target of 50, and the Hoopa License will be added to your collection.
Remember, the event ends on March 14, 2022, so make sure you start your journey no later than March 9 should you want to claim Hoopa in time.
