Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Comes In Small At Around 33GB

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s launch file size has been revealed, and it comes to around 33GB.

The size of Rift Apart has been revealed because the game is currently available to pre-load. Gamers who have pre-ordered the game digitally can now start pre-loading the game ready for June 11, which has revealed that it comes to a surprisingly slim 33GB.

Insomniac Games clarified on Twitter that the file size shown at the moment won’t be the game’s final size overall. A fan asked on Twitter if there will be a day-one patch for Rift Apart and Insomniac confirmed that there would be, with more information coming soon.

Some fans suspect that the day-one patch for Rift Apart will include a 60fps ray-tracing mode, similarly to what Miles Morales eventually added. On a ResetEra thread talking about Rift Apart, an Insomniac Games developer said, “Patience. Details soon” in response to a question about the feature being present at launch.

The fact that Rift Apart is such a small download is pretty impressive considering how much it takes advantage of the PS5’s systems, such as displaying at 4K with ray-tracing details so small that you can only see it in the game’s photo mode. That’s not even mentioning how the PS5’s SSD is taken advantage of, with near-instant load times and planet shifting gameplay.

In comparison to Insomniac’s other games, Rift Apart is also pretty impressive. The PS4 release of Ratchet and Clank came up to 26 GB, and Insomniac’s last PS5 game, Miles Morales, totalled at 39 GB. Both of those games featured over 20 hours of gameplay at least, so Rift Apart is looking pretty sizeable.

Whether this speaks to the team’s technical skills at keeping the game’s file size down to a small amount, or whether it shows Rift Apart’s length is currently unknown, but Insomniac has gone on record multiple times to say that it is a “full-length” adventure. That certainly seems to be the case, as the game’s trophy list is packed full of things to do for the platinum.
