Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game delayed until 2023 claims report

Officially we’re still getting two DC Comics games this year but according to a new rumour it may end up being only Gotham Knights.

It’s now almost seven years since British developer Rocksteady released Batman: Arkham Knight and they’ve barely said a word since, working in secret on Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and only recently releasing any actual gameplay footage.

The game is a four-player co-op shooter set in an open world version of Metropolis, where Superman and the Justice League appear to have been brainwashed by supervillain Brainiac.

The game was supposed to be out this year but according to a new Bloomberg report it’s already been delayed into 2023, for unspecified reasons.

Although very little of the game has been shown so far, the fact that you only have a choice of four characters (Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark) seems a little disappointing given the various bizarre characters featured in the movies, and especially since they all end up using guns anyway.

There has been some speculation that the game was originally designed to be a live service title that relied heavily on lootboxes, but in the time it’s taken to develop that whole business model has fallen out of favour for full-price games.

Whether that’s actually what’s happened we may never know but it once again emphasises that you shouldn’t take any release date for granted this year, especially one that’s just vaguely ‘2022’.

That includes the other two big name games from Warner Bros., Gotham Knights and Hogwarts, which although they’re supposed to be out this year still don’t have a specific date.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga does though, with a recent update announcing it for April 5.
