Samba de Amigo: Party Central has been announced during the February Nintendo Direct and is coming as a Switch exclusive this Summer.
It's been some time since we last saw Samba de Amigo as, unless you're counting appearances in Sega's crossover racing and tennis games, his last game was on the Wii, all the way back in 2008. Well, after more than a decade, the series is back on the Switch with a new rhythm game – Samba de Amigo: Party Central.
The reveal trailer for Party Central shows that it's a little different to the games of old, with a much trendier soundtrack and an art style that's much brighter and more pop-centric. Then again, the original game had Tubthumping, so what do I know? A press release shared after the reveal trailer also confirmed that there will be 40 songs from the "world's most popular genres" (including EDM, pop, and Latin) and that it'll be supported with post-launch DLC.
In case you've never played a Samba de Amigo game, the main draw is that you dance to the beat while shaking your controllers like maracas. That's thankfully been carried over to Party Central, along with special poses and random prompts that ask the player to high-five characters or do a sudden sprint.
One key feature that was shown off during the trailer was multiplayer, which seems to be a big focus. One example that was shown in the trailer is a "love tracker" minigame that sees how compatible you and your dancing partner are based on how well you dance. There will also be online leaderboards, so you can show off your skills to everyone around the world.
Of course, this won't come as too much of a surprise to anyone who was paying attention to leaks before the Nintendo Direct. Twitter user SnoopyTech shared images of the game's cover art and revealed some of the first details about the game just hours before the Direct debuted. One detail from the leak that wasn't revealed from the trailer was a release date of June 30, although that may come true down the line.
