Sea Of Thieves Season 8 Will Introduce On-Demand PvP

Sea of Thieves is one of those games that was doomed to sink soon after it set sail, but managed to conjure a second wind. Okay, no more sailing puns. Rare managed to do what the likes of No Man's Sky and Rainbow Six: Siege have done and turned things around. While this also includes fixing things that were broken or unbalanced, the most effective way to do so is by consistently putting out good content updates.

And now, with its eighth season coming November 22, Sea of Thieves will be putting out its biggest update yet. The highlight feature of the update is PvP on demand. You can now face off against other pirate crews in a battle to decide who rules the seas. Starting PvP matches entails a pretty cool process – you can interact with the Hourglass of Fate and choose to represent either one of two factions, Pirate Lord's Guardians of Fortune or Flameheart's Servants of the Flame.

Once your faction is chosen, your ship will dive beneath the surface of the water like the Flying Dutchman. Once you're done preparing your ship and crew for a battle, your ship will surface with the enemy ship right in your line. With every PvP victory, the value of your hourglass will increase, and can be exchanged for gold once you're done with battling other players. However, the more valuable your hourglass gets, the more valuable a target your ship is. You'll become a mark for PvP hunters looking to earn off your wreckage.

Upon reaching Allegiance level 100 with either of the two factions, you'll be able to unlock and visit a special faction hideout, with its own unique secrets and activities.

Season eight also brings two new all Alignments for Captains, which will reward you with various cosmetics upon reaching certain milestones. And of course, with a new season come new cosmetics and rewards to be unlocked. To be more specific, 100 tiers of unlockable items will be introduced to the game. Plunder Pass holders will have the opportunity to unlock an additional 13 items, chief among them being the Ravenwood ship and costume.
