September is in full swing, PlayStation Plus subscribers can get another pair of free games. Throughout the month, members can grab PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Street Fighter V. Together, the duo make September one of the stronger months of the year when it comes to Sony’s free game offerings. Both will be free to claim for subscribers until October 5.
Street Fighter V originally released in 2016 and has continued to evolve, with new characters and stages added over the course of seasonal updates. The popular fighting game is currently in its fifth and final season, and new content is still on the horizon despite Street Fighter V being more than four years old. It earned a 7/10 in our original Street Fighter V review, with critic Peter Brown praising the deep fighting mechanics and unique cast of fighters that has only grown exponentially since release. Rather than release entirely new versions of the game that are incompatible with previous ones, Capcom has taken to also including these as updates for existing players.
To celebrate Street Fighter V’s arrival on PS Plus, Sony will hold tournaments beginning September 4. Play well enough and you could win some goodies, including cash prizes and an exclusive PS4 theme.
While Fall Guys may be the current prince of battle royales, you can grab a decidedly different take on the genre for free throughout September. PUBG, which barely needs an introduction at this point, is a more stringent battle royale that relies on precise gunplay and deep knowledge of the large map. It has changed a lot since we published our PUBG review in 2017, but it earned an 8/10 for its rewarding tactical combat and penchant for unpredictability. It still has some technical issues, but it’s worth checking out if you’re looking for a change of pace from Fortnite or Fall Guys.
