While the recent Nintendo Direct mini presentation announced a number of great looking ports, the Japanese Nintendo presentation showed off a few games not mentioned over in the West, and among them is Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate coming soon to the Switch.
Fans of the series may recall that the Nintendo DS had an exclusive release of the game in Japan, and eventually 2016 saw a PlayStation Vita port in the West. Like before, fans of the series may be in for a long wait for a localization outside of Japan, since the trailer was intended for Japanese audiences.
For those not familiar with the series, Shiren the Wanderer is primarily a roguelike RPG within a larger subset of Mystery Dungeon games developed by Chunsoft. Randomized dungeons await where players find items, equipment, and fight monsters. While players are rewarded for clearing out dungeons, the difficulty lies in how harsh death is, with most or all items usually lost on death, stats or levels reset to their base, and dungeons change so as to force players to essentially restart their progression.
There is no firm date yet set for Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate, but we will certainly hear more news since it is described as launching in 2020.
