A now deleted interview with Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka saw him hint that his next project will be revealed in the summer.
Much like Pyramid Head forever pursuing players in Silent Hill 2, there have been persistent rumours that Konami is working on a new Silent Hill game, despite the company’s own insistence that they’re not.
Those rumours have been given a shot in the arm following an interview between Arabic website Al Hub and Akira Yamaoka, the former composer for the Silent Hill series, where he was asked about his next project after The Medium.
He teased that it will probably be announced this summer and added, ‘I think it’s the one you’re hoping to hear about.’ Given how iconic Yamaoka’s score was on Silent Hill it’s hard to imagine that hint refers to anything else.
Despite multiple, reliable sources seemingly convinced that a remake or reboot of Silent Hill was soon to be announced it ended up being one of the few high profile rumours from last year that wasn’t subsequently proven to be true.
AestheticGamer, who accurately leaked information about Resident Evil Village before it was revealed, repeatedly stated that a reboot of the series was in development for the PlayStation 5 and would be announced in 2020.
There were also separate rumours suggesting that Konami had brought in Hideo Kojima to work on a Silent Hill project, potentially even the cancelled Silent Hills, but Kojima himself shot them down.
Despite the lack of any new games since 2012, Konami clearly still has an interest in the IP, lending it out as DLC for multiplayer horror games like Dead By Daylight and, more recently, Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals.
What’s more, the company recently confirmed it was undergoing some restructuring efforts to make game development more efficient, which could signal Konami’s return to console games.
The company is rather infamous for mostly focusing on mobile games and Japanese-only pachinko machines nowadays, much to the ire of some fans. This has even led to demands from fans that another company buy Konami’s IPs from them.
