Skyrim: 10 Best Mods That Add Entirely New Cities

The fantastical realm of Skyrim is in and of itself a vast world filled with numerous cities and adventures with no end in sight. From world-ending quests to helping normal folks with their daily problems, the Dragonborn's to-do list never runs dry. But at times, you wish you could travel beyond the borders of Skyrim for new lands to explore, quests to accomplish, and people to meet.

Fortunately, the expansion of the modding community makes it possible for the Dragonborn to traverse new pastures and strange lands. There are plenty of new lands mods in Nexus Mods that do just as well as the main game itself, and it would be remiss not to mention a few standouts.

10 Beyond Skyrim

The Beyond Skyrim mod is a massive project that intends to cover lands from Cyrodiil to Morrowind, giving you the chance of experiencing gripping new stories from the whole of Tamriel. With a large crew of their own writers and top-class voice actors, this project is one for the history books.

As of today, Beyond Skyrim has launched its first new territory in northern Cyrodiil: Bruma. It allows you to venture into and loot Ayleid ruins and explore iconic locations such as Cloud Ruler Temple and Frostfire Glade. With a high volume of downloads and endorsements, it bodes well for Beyond Skyrim's upcoming launches.

9 Falskaar

The Falskaar mod adds a vast new land -namely Falskaar- for the Dragonborn to explore and assist.

Accessed firstly through a portal in a dungeon, the Dragonborn fulfills yet another prophecy as 'The Traveller' by the inhabitants of Falskaar. Falskaar is the complete package for a whole new adventure in a land that has not seen a newcomer in centuries. From an abundance of new quests and untouched dungeons to explore, Falskaar will have you entranced for hours.

8 Enderal: Forgotten Stories

Enderal's immersive storyline and its world suck you right in that you'll easily get yourself lost in it. As one of the biggest Skyrim mods ever created, we expect no less.

Not only does it serve an intriguing storyline, but the Enderal mod gives you new character classes and builds, too. Like the Hearthfire DLC, this mod gives you the chance to build your dream home in a new land. Enderal is so good that it's got its own Steam page where you can install it (for free), as well as its soundtrack and an upcoming novel.

7 Fort Knox

If you're itching for a futuristic Cyberpunk 2077-esque land to explore, then the new Fort Knox mod is right up your alley. Inspired by a Halo mod named Aether Suite, the Dragonborn seems to have time-traveled eons into the future with this one.

Explore a world so vastly different from the magical realm of Skyrim, with its moody, holographic lighting and features straight out of a Blade Runner film. Instead of a medieval city, Fort Knox steps outside the box to deliver a sci-fi metropolis fit for a Dragonborn.

6 Moonpath To Elsweyr

As one -if not- the first-ever new lands and quests mod for Skyrim, Moonpath to Elsweyr is a classic OG worth mentioning in this list.

This mod takes you out of Skyrim to the motherland of the Khajiit: Elsweyr. Explore a breathtaking new landscape, a fantastic cast of multi-faceted characters and creatures, as well as a gripping storyline. Although (Northern) Elsweyr is now part of the Elder Scrolls Online world map, it is interesting to see both depictions of the Khajiit homeland.

5 The Forgotten City

Probably the most successful mod in the Skyrim mod community, The Forgotten City has evolved into a game in its own right, winning awards left and right.

Although the mod has slight differences from the recently launched game, the Skyrim mod is still definitely worth playing. With a new ancient underground Dwemer city to explore, the Dragonborn is yet again in charge of solving a murder mystery, as well as trying to escape the city. This time loop extravaganza makes for an unforgettable story.

4 Darkend

If you're a Souls fan then the Skyrim mod Darkend is one catered to you. Set in the danger-ridden island of Pharos, filled with Dark Souls-worthy bosses and enemies only a being like the Dragonborn can defeat. Similar to the Soulsborne series, the Darkend mod does not give many pointers on where to go, with the Dragonborn free to explore the island to their hearts' content.

3 Wyrmstooth

The Wyrmstooth mod takes you to Wyrmstooth Island, where a dragon has been causing problems for its inhabitants. Sounds like a job for the Dragonborn!

However, there's more to the story than simply a dragon going on a wild rampage. Uncover the truth in this exciting mod with a bunch of additional side quests and dungeons. You can even buy your own fort and hire staff to keep it up and running. Learn a new Shout and a myriad of other skills and gear on this mysterious island.

2 Salem

This mod offers you a gladiator experience in the land of Salem, with a whole new storyline and guilds to join.

From a Witches' Guild to a Fight Club, prove your mettle and show your mastery of combat over other champion fighters in the arena. Purchase another home in the city and continue to kill dragons terrorizing Salem. There's no shortage of adventure in this mystifying land.

1 The Sky Residence

Unlike the other mods on this list, The Sky Residence mod takes you on a journey to the skies. Nestled in Sharp Edge Mountains, this new realm is a floating garden come to life.

As you can tell by the name of this mod, Sky Residence gifts the Dragonborn a new home amongst the clouds. Along with new quests and skills to unlock, this idyllic world serves as both a relaxing retreat and an exhilarating new adventure.
