Skyrim Mod Adds Entire City Filled With More Than 100 NPC Mages

Skyrim just got another massive addition to its game world thanks to someone going by the name of Sdougiss on the popular content creation platform Nexus Mods. Players are now able to explore a bustling mage city filled with more than 100 non-player characters, each one featuring a few lines of new dialog.

The mod by Sdougiss known as The City of Bromjunaar transforms the location called Labyrinthian, previously nothing but a bunch of empty ruins, into what is for all intents and purposes a fully functional city. The place features all of the necessary hallmarks including a cluster of houses, a market full of merchants, a blacksmith, a fairly sizable dungeon, a castle that players can purchase, and of course a mage academy. Bromjunaar is conceived of as a reward for completing the College of Winterhold questline.

When it comes to lore, Bromjunaar is apparently neutral in the conflict between Stormcloaks and Imperials. The city is meant for magic users, but Khajiit merchants are welcome to stay as long as they like. “Why a city for mages you ask? Well, since the location is an essential place for the College of Winterhold and since the reward for completing the College's quest is so meager and underwhelming, I've decided to make the completion of the College's quest much more rewarding,” Sdougiss explains. “So, I've made a second College inside Labyrinthian and added a whole city outside it under your control to truly make it seem like you have progressed as a mage.”

Sdougiss apparently has big plans for The City of Bromjunaar. “The mod is intended in the future to make a quest to search for the so-called ‘whispered spell’ so that when you finish the College of Winterhold storyline, you will get to go on one final quest to make you a true Archmage,” the modder notes in reference to the Archmage Shalidor who made Winterhold from a "whispered spell.” Sdougiss goes on to say that upon “completion of the quest, the city will appear after a lengthy and arduous ritual and will be yours to rule.”

While the mod remains a work in progress, The City of Bromjunaar is “playable and can be enjoyed without all the big bells and whistles.” Players have already reported encountering a few bugs, but Sdougiss has been hard at work ironing them out. As for compatibility, the mod should work with just about any setup. “If you encounter any bugs that cause a crash to the desktop, please write a message in the mod's forum after running the Load Order Optimization Tool to see if my mod has some compatibility issues that were unforeseen,” Sdougiss points out. “The more information you provide to me, the more I'll be able to correct it.”
