Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order PS5 & Xbox Series X upgrade available now

EA has quietly released the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order today, with surprisingly little fanfare.

After recent rumours suggested that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order would get an updated release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, EA acknowledged the fact but never shared an exact date; it turns out that date is today.

With zero fanfare whatsoever, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game are available right now and can be downloaded from their respective digital storefronts. Although it so far seems they’re only available digitally, retailers will likely stock physical copies as well.

For existing owners you can just download it immediately since it’s a free upgrade. Xbox owners can also download the game through EA Play if they have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

The game can already be played on the newer consoles through backwards compatibility, but these dedicated versions mean you can now experience the adventure with 4K visuals and other technical improvements.

Released in 2019, Fallen Order is set before the events of A New Hope and sees you controlling young Jedi-in-training Cal as he attempts to avoid being captured by the Empire.

The game was a critical and commercial success, which seemed to all but guarantee a sequel. So it’s surprising that none has ever been officially announced.

EA isn’t taking part in E3 this year, but it’ll still have an EA Play Live presentation in July. There’s a chance it’ll announce Fallen Order 2 then, although there have been no specific rumours to suggest they will.

At the very least, EA isn’t done making Star Wars games – even if it no longer holds exclusive rights to do so. The revival of the Lucasfilm Games brand means other studios can work on the franchise, with Ubisoft already developing an open world Star Wars game of its own.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Stadia.
