Firefly Studios have been hard at work with the ongoing development of Stronghold: Warlords, which moves the franchise into Chinese, Mongolian and Korean history. We already saw Fire Oxen when we got our hands on the demo. Now the team is upping the ante as they unveil a new Fire Arrow Cart and Rocket Launcher, alongside the classic Siege Tower.
These new siege weapons are inspired by the ancient Chinese relationship with flaming arrows and winged rockets and will allow players to infiltrate and even obliterate castle walls. The Fire Arrow Cart is a versatile unit, well suited to skirmish armies. It can destroy unarmored units and clear castle walls. The Rocket Launcher is designed for destruction, helping shatter exposed towers and obliterate gatehouses. These combine well with the classic Siege Tower for maximum destruction of enemy strongholds. You can find out more about the weapons and see them in action in this update from the studio.
The team has promised that this is just the beginning, with more siege weaponry set to be unveiled closer to launch.
Stronghold: Warlords is taking the much loved “castle sim” in a new direction and so far it looks promising. Firefly hopes to tap into the Far East’s military history and combine it with features we know and love to produce something that feels like a Stronghold game but with some unique twists. These new siege units are just the beginning.
