Terry Crews’ Crackdown 3 character isn’t just an Agent – it’s a tribute to his son

Crackdown 3 is (finally!) coming in February, and ahead of the Xbox One exclusive's launch, Microsoft's marketing has focussed on one aspect of the game more than any other: Terry Crews.

Terry Crews plays the role of agent Isiah Jaxon in the game – voicing one of 21 avatars you can play as in the action-packed, city-wrecking sandbox game.

Terry's character – as you'd perhaps expect – has an affinity for strength (he can lift things easier than other characters) and explosions (he can make bigger explosions than other characters).

But behind all that bombast and the tongue-in-cheek humour of the trailers (see below), there's a pretty touching and lovely story about the big man's role in Microsoft's latest exclusive title that shows just how sweet the actor really is.

"Terry has been beyond fantastic," reveals Dave Johnson, senior art director at Microsoft Studios, when we asked him what working with the star has been like for the company.

"He is so excited to be involved with Crackdown 3 – and that's a legitimate excitement, too – you can feel it when you talk to him. We get to do lots of neat things along the way in working with Terry."

When asked what a highlight of the process has been, Johnson barely paused before launching into an anecdote that's sure to melt even the coldest gamer's heart.

"So, Terry wanted his time on this game to be this bonding experience with his son, right? Terry's son is really into video games and Terry wanted to have this moment to share with him, and so Terry's name in the game – the agent he plays – is Isaiah Jaxon. And his son's name is Isiah.

"Terry did that – with everyone's permission! – because he wanted to share this experience and this process with him. Terry really has been an absolute dream to work with."

It's such a nice touch to a game that, on the surface, may just seem to be about blowing stuff up and hurling tanks at helicopters…

…I mean, all of those things do happen in the game, but it's something nice to remember when you're playing as Terry's bulking character and he calls out 'Fuck Gravity!' when you mess up a jump.

Never change, Terry.

Crackdown 3 releases on February 18, 2019, on Xbox One, and will be available on launch day via Xbox Games Pass.
