Here we are at the beginning of yet another work week unless of course you’re lucky enough to have gotten some time off because of New Year’s Eve. Supposing that you are, congratulations. But the rest of us are behind on everything that’s been going on in the world of gaming. In other words, time for my daily news roundup. Today, we heard that World of Warcraft might get cross-faction guilds, Square Enix plans to stick with blockchain technology, and Destiny 2 dataminers have admitted to faking a subscription plan leak. There’s more where this came from, so read on for the rest.
Square Enix President's New Year Letter Mentions Blockchain 14 Times
The recently released New Year's Day letter from President at Square Enix Yosuke Matsuda mentioned blockchain technology no less than 14 times. "In terms of new business domains, we named three focus investment fields under our medium term business plan," Matsuda said. "Among those, we are most focused on blockchain entertainment to which we have devoted aggressive investment and business development efforts. Looking externally, I think it is fair to say that blockchain gained significant recognition as a field in 2022, as evidenced by ‘Web 3.0’ becoming a firmly established buzzword among businesspeople."
Destiny 2 Dataminers Admit To Faking Subscription Plan Leak
Destiny 2 dataminers just admitted to having faked a subscription plan leak. “Was gonna just let this keep on going, but since it grew really large and people are actually worried outside of the server, we just wanted to formally apologize and admit that we trolled everyone,” the leaker on a Discord server known as D2 Datamines going by the name of Elliot remarked about the matter.
MTG's Head Designer On Release Fatigue: "If Our Approach Is Flawed, We'll Do Something Different"
The head designer on Magic: The Gathering said earlier this week that “if our approach is flawed, we’ll do something different” in reference to release fatigue. “Putting out less food means that we’re depriving some diners of food that makes them most excited to come to the buffet,” Mark Rosewater explained, adding that “we’re always trying to attract new diners. Certain foods might make some diners sample the buffet that haven’t tried it before.”
Blizzard Developer Says Cross-Faction World of Warcraft Guilds Are "Being Considered"
Cross-faction guilds are apparently “being considered” for World of Warcraft, at least according to Production Director Pat Dawson. Blizzard has “nothing to announce on that” for the moment, but the developer explained how “I think that as the system evolves, you’re seeing incremental changes being made over time. First was the cross-faction raiding, then cross-faction instances. The next iteration which just changed with the release of Dragonflight is cross-faction tapping, so that’s part two.”
Streamer Mizkif Apologizes For "Tone Deaf" Response To Sexual Assault Controversy
The popular content creator Mizkif has finally apologized for his earlier comments concerning the still ongoing sexual assault controversy surrounding his friend and fellow streamer CrazySlick. “My behavior on that stream was absolutely unacceptable,” Mizkif mentioned earlier this week in reference to his “embarrassing comeback stream.” The content creator went on to say that “I communicated almost everything terribly and I was completely tone deaf to such a serious situation and I’m so sorry for how I acted,” adding that “it was completely insensitive.”
