The Witcher 3 on PS5 and Xbox Series X will be out before Christmas

CD Projekt has confirmed that they’re planning to release the next gen version of The Witcher 3 this year, despite saying it was postponed.

It’s fair to say that the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 seriously threw off the plans of developer/publisher CD Projekt, not just for everything Cyberpunk related but The Witcher as well.

Only last month they announced that work on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions of The Witcher had been postponed ‘until further notice’.

Now, just a few weeks later, they claim the game will be out in Q4 of this year, i.e. between October and December. Originally the game was supposed to be out between April and June, but by current standards that’s not that bad of a delay.

As you can see, there’s no explanation for the sudden change of plan, but originally CD Projekt said they were ‘evaluating the scope of work to be done’, after moving development in-house.

Presumably this means that there’s less to do than they previously thought, but it’s hard to say since they never said what they were worried about or why they took over the project themselves in the first place.

CD Projekt has also announced a new Witcher game that will use new Unreal Engine 5 graphics technology, although nothing is know about it beyond that – including who’ll be the main character.

Earlier rumours had suggested that Geralt will not be the protagonist, with that role being taken by Ciri. That was before it was clear just what a major hit the Netflix series had become, so at the moment it’s probably best not to assume anything about The Witcher 4.

Let’s make this 7th anniversary even better, shall we?

We’re delighted to share that the Next Gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is planned to release in Q4 2022.
