The world of Skyrim is rife with rich lore and endless adventures as the almighty Dragonborn, would-be saviors of Tamriel from Alduin the Worldeater. There are plenty of things to do in Skyrim; like buying a house, enrolling into a Mage's College, riding dragons, and battling omnipotent Daedric Princes. The list is virtually endless!
But do not let all that power get to your head. Unfortunately, being Dragonborn does not make you immune from feeling the consequences of your actions. So maybe battling that Frost Troll on the way to High Hrothgar wasn't the smartest of ideas. Here are some other things you probably shouldn't do.
7 Do Not Kill A Chicken
It's tempting, for sure but killing one of these little troublemakers will bring you a lot more trouble than it's worth. You'd think killing one chicken would seem insignificant, but you'd be dead wrong.
These creatures are better regarded than the Jarl. Kill one, and it will set the entire town on you, never mind that you are the only hope for Skyrim. Guards; farmers; merchants; even career criminals will charge at you like you've murdered the High King himself. Oh, wait…
6 Do Not Attack A Guard
Whether you are in majestic Windhelm or homey Riverwood, you must never attack a guard. Starting out the game, you are definitely broke. So attacking a guard is probably the worst idea ever, since the only ways out are to pay a fine, be in the Thieves' Guild, or become a Thane – and even the latter there's a limit to how many crimes you can get away with.
Not only does the entire hold turn on you, but now you've got a criminal record and every guard you meet will ask you to surrender. Plus, you will lose your chance at experiencing some thrilling quests. So, if you want to start a town massacre, well, you better save first, just in case you change your mind.
5 Do Not Attack Unkillable NPCs
Not only are they undefeatable, but trying to kill unkillable NPCs in the game is not recommended. This goes for followers like Serana or essential NPCs like Delphine, as well as the children of Skyrim. It's totally understandable why you would want to kill Delphine, but it's just not possible.
Attacking an immortal NPC results in shattered trust, and it is a futile effort anyway. You will only get to see them fall to their knees, before standing up again to attack you until you're dead. So no matter how much you want to off Jarl Balgruuf's pompous little brats, it's best to hold it in.
4 Do Not Attack A Giant Or Troll Head-On
Do not underestimate a giant or troll's ability to punt you into the air. You might think that none can stand in the way of the great Dragonborn, a being capable of Shouting down dragons the size of castles and taking down a Vampire Lord but you'd be wrong.
However, if you fancy a new view of the world then, aside from on a dragon's back, this might be your one-of-a-kind opportunity to see the picturesque lands of Skyrim from the air. Trying to take on a giant or frost troll head-on-especially when you're under level – is a surefire way of granting your wish for an aerial view of Skyrim.
3 Do Not Grab Everything
Unless you are using cheat codes, it is best not to grab everything you see. Not only will it land you jail time if your Stealth skill is not fleshed out yet, but you are just going to slow yourself down.
Also, better weapons or potions might come along, and you'd have to go through the process of going through your inventory and thinking about what to ditch. Also, if a giant is stomping your way, well, it would not do to have 'Too heavy to flee' written as the Dragonborn's epitaph. Think before you loot.
2 Do Not Attack A Greybeard… Ever
As the saying goes: "Don't underestimate an old person in an occupation where most die young." This is true everywhere in the rough lands of Skyrim, and in characters such as Kodlak Whitemane of the Companions. But let's not forget about the Greybeards.
This group of old monks dedicated to studying 'The Way of the Voice' are not to be trifled with, especially in battle. They took years to master the Voice, so don't let their kindly grandfather shtick fool you. These old men are called masters for a reason, so they're not going to get done in by someone who's just learned to Shout – even if they're the Dragonborn.
1 Do Not Go On A Killing Spree
We've all seen these types of videos on YouTube before, where gamers set off on a 'Killing everyone in Skyrim' spree. Everyone wants to have a go at killing Nazeem and other annoying NPCs in the game (looking at you, Astrid), but unfortunately the consequences are far-reaching.
Not only will you become public enemy number one, but certain quests will not be available should the Dragonborn decide to become the most prolific serial killer in Skyrim history. Even the Dark Brotherhood will not be able to match up to the Dragonborn's kill count.
