It looks like 2022 is going to be a busy year for Supermassive Games. Not only have trademarks suggested a whole host of new games for its Dark Pictures anthology, but a recent registration has revealed that the studio may also be working on new titles outside the horror series. The new title will be named The Quarry and, according to VGC, will be published by 2K. However, there has been no official word by the publisher.
The trademark, registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, is listed under games software, entertainment services, and computer programming services. There's not much else we know about it at the moment, but keeping with Supermassive's niche, it could be another horror game. Quarries are pretty scary after all.
Only last week we learned that the studio could be working on a remake of the classic horror title, Until Dawn. According to a tweet by AccountNGT, they had heard from “several separate sources” that Supermassive Games was working on “a remake of Until Dawn for some time that will be coming to current-gen consoles”. Considering that the game came out only in 2015, this too is merely speculation at the moment.
On top of all that, we reported at the start of February that the studio has registered trademarks for five unannounced titles under the Dark Pictures umbrella. The trademarked games include The Craven Man, Directive 8020, Intercession, Winterfold, and O Death, along with title artwork for each of them.
Interestingly, O Death is the name of the traditional Appalachian folk song, which featured in Until Dawn. Perhaps the studio is working on a spin-off of the game, not necessarily a remake. No release dates or information was shared about these titles, so only time will make things clearer.
The latest Dark Pictures game to be revealed was Devil in Me, slated to release some time this year. You'll take control of a group of documentary filmmakers who have received an invitation to visit a replica of the "Murder Castle" built by notorious serial killer H.H. Holmes. The trailer revealed a number of gruesome death traps, evoking memories of the Saw series.
