Twisted Metal TV Show Could Drop This Year Hints PlayStation Studios Head

It's pretty safe to say that Sony has scored a major hit already this year and 2023 has only just begun. The HBO adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us has been racking up big viewership numbers and has been one of the studio's biggest hits since House of the Dragon. Naughty Dog is one of Sony's first party studios and its co-president Neil Druckmann is a showrunner of the TV series alongside Craig Mazin.

Last year, Sony also scored a hit with the Uncharted movie, starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, which became the fifth-highest-grossing video games movie of all time. And 2023 promises to be another big year as head of PlayStation Studios and PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash hints.

Sony is pushing big into TV and film for its video games IP and it's proving successful, with reports that The Last of Us show has put a rocket under sales of The Last of Us games since the show debuted earlier this month. And the company has more games-based media coming out this year. Nodding to the forthcoming Gran Turismo movie, Qizilbash used his office's elevator ride to suggest another car-related series could be on the horizon.

Referencing Twisted Metal Black with the "head on fire" comment and the emojis, Qizilbash confirmed the suggestion in a follow-up tweet after someone directly mentioned the car battler in a comment on his tweet. "Glad you're excited [about Twisted Metal]", the PlayStation Productions head wrote. "No release time has been locked yet but the team will be hard at work on it this year, that I can promise you".

The Twisted Metal TV show finished filming last year and is now in post production. The series stars Anthony Mackie as John Doe and Samoa Joe as Sweet Tooth, with Will Arnett providing the voice. Meanwhile, the Gran Turismo movie will star David Harbour and Orlando Bloom, with District 9 director Neill Blomkamp at the helm – it has an August 11 release date.
