WWE 2K22 announced during WrestleMania

During WrestleMania 37 this past weekend, WWE and 2K announced WWE 2K22. The announcement trailer features about 30 seconds of logo treatment and a very good looking wrestler. WWE 2K22 is the first numbered WWE game since 2K20.

The announcement trailer for WWE 2K22 — shown above — heavily features Rey Mysterio putting on his famous mask. The first 20 seconds cuts between what looks like the real-life Rey Mysterio and his digital doppelganger: the new model for 2K22. The final 10 seconds of the 30-second trailer features a very short look at gameplay, with Rey Mysterio beating on fellow wrestler Cesaro.

This news comes almost exactly a year after WWE canceled WWE 2K21. The last proper WWE 2K game, 2K20, was an outright disaster according to fans. With the series skipping 2020 in favor of the cartoonish 2K Battlegrounds, it’s unclear if 2K22 will take the series in a new direction or repeat the mistakes of the past.

Following the usual release schedule, 2K will likely launch WWE 2K22 later this year. It’s currently unclear what platforms 2K22 will appear on.
