Xbox is telling gamers how long they can expect to spend on their latest games. In the Xbox app’s September update, Microsoft announced it had teamed up with HowLongToBeat.com to integrate playtime estimates on game library pages.
“Beginning today, you can view estimates for how long it will take you to complete a game in the game details pages for most PC Game Pass games,” wrote Xbox in today’s blog update. “HowLongToBeat is a community-driven website that specializes in game lengths.”
Under the details tab of each game will have a new section titled “HowLongToBeat” which provides estimates based on the type of gamer you are. If you’re usually the type to leave sidequests by the wayside and just shoot through the campaign, then “main story” is the estimate you should focus on. If you tend to play the story and most of the side quests, then “main + extras” is your number. If you’re the type to do the campaign, every side quest and then go after every collectible and unlockable in the game, then you’re a “completionist.” And if you think you’re just an average gamer, the “all styles” section provides an average playtime for every player.
You might not necessarily know what sort of gamer you are before you’ve actually played the game, but HowLongToBeat is still a great resource to make sure you’re planning your gaming wisely. The site also has the entire Xbox Game Pass library, so you can see times for every game on Xbox’s platform.
Xbox has also updated the game details tab with trailers, screenshots, and a description at the top of the page. Clicking on the “view details” link will even let players submit their own personal playtimes and check out community reviews, playthrough notes, data breakdowns, and more.
Finally, the Xbox App has seen some significant improvements. The app now launches 15 percent faster, provides search results 20 percent sooner, and reports of failed downloads or glitched installations have been cut by half.
Stay tuned for this update to the Xbox app. And in case you missed it, the app also has Discord integration now, so you can chat with anyone while playing your favorite Xbox titles.
