Assassin’s Creed Valhalla developer Ubisoft has issued multiple copyright claims to take down leaked footage of its next-generation game.
Thirty minutes of gameplay, reportedly from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, was uploaded to YouTube over the weekend. Videos were quickly taken offline, but mirrors are still available. The footage, which is labeled “work in progress” begins with the main character, Eivor, riding a horse through a village, on a mission called “A Fury from the Sea.” This leads into a boat-based assault on “Burgh Castle” — showcasing both land and sea combat. The video ends with a brief look at the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla menus, particularly the skill tree and inventory slots.
Ubisoft has not responded to Polygon’s request for comment.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was revealed in April. Ubisoft showed off a first in-game look at the next-gen title on May 7 with an Xbox Series X gameplay trailer. The game’s creative director, Ashraf Ismail, stepped down from his role on June 24 following allegations of an extramarital affair and sexual misconduct with fans.
“Ashraf Ismail is stepping down from the project to take a leave of absence,” a Ubisoft representative told Polygon in June. “The development team is committed to delivering a great game in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.”
Ubisoft is currently investigating multiple reports of sexual harassment and misconduct by its employees.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is expected to be released on Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X this holiday season. The company will hold an “E3-style showcase,” called Ubisoft Forward, on July 12.
