The PlayStation 5 will be Sony’s largest console ever, according to official system specifications released on Thursday, confirming speculation from fans that the next-gen PlayStation will be just absolutely massive.
Here are the official size dimensions of the standard PlayStation 5 and the disc-less Digital Edition of the console, as revealed via the PlayStation Blog:
PlayStation 5
- Width: 15.35 inches (390 mm)
- Depth: 10.23 inches (260 mm)
- Height: 4.1 inches (104 mm)
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition
- Width: 15.35 inches (390 mm)
- Depth: 10.23 inches (260 mm)
- Height: 3.6 inches (92 mm)
Sony notes that those dimensions do not add in the size of the included base, which will give the PS5 a larger footprint when standing upright.

Weighing in at 9.9 lbs (4.5 kg), the PlayStation 5 is also the second heaviest PlayStation to date, behind the weighty launch model PlayStation 3, which weighed 11 lbs (5 kg). The PS5 Digital Edition is a bit lighter: 8.6 lbs (3.9 kg).
Console shoppers will need to clear plenty of space on their shelves and TV stands, especially if they’re also buying a next-gen Xbox Series X this November. The higher end next-gen Xbox measures 5.94 inches wide, 5.94 inches deep, and 11.85 inches high (15.1 cm by 15.1 cm by 30.1 cm). It’s a heavy one too: 9.81 pounds (4.45 kg).
Fortunately, for space-conscious consumers, Microsoft also has the cheaper Xbox Series S, which is approximately 60% smaller than the Series X. According to The Verge, the Xbox Series S is 10.8 inches (275 mm) tall, 5.9 inches (151 mm) deep, and 2.5 inches (63.5mm) wide in a vertical position.
So yes, the PlayStation 5 is big. Easily the biggest modern console to date. Might want to find the right spot for it before launch, if you manage to secure a pre-order, that is.
