Float along on gentle breezes and explore fantastical woodland environments in Stonefly, a new top-down action-adventure game from Flight School (Creature in the Well) and MWM Interactive.
The game looks gorgeous and is inspired by mid-century modern design. Bohdon Sayre, game director at Flight School Studio, said in a release that the team “set out to create something visually unique and mechanically original.”
The story centers on Annika, a “brilliant but naïve inventor” who is trying to find a lost family heirloom: her dad’s mech. As Annika, you pilot your own mech (which looks like an insect) that you use to explore the world and collect resources to upgrade your rig.
It’s an action game, but the combat looks very gentle; a short gameplay video shows that the player fights by pushing bugs away with the wind. Game designer Mel Ramsden described the game as “a King of the Hill game, but the hill is a very tiny mound full of riches.” As you shoe various bugs away, you’ll be able to collect resources needed to upgrade your mech.
Stonefly is slotted to release June 1 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
