Electronic Arts and developer DICE revealed the next game in the Battlefield series on Wednesday. It’s called Battlefield 2042 and brings the military first-person shooter franchise back to the future.
You can read first details about Battlefield 2042, including its 128-player battles, seven maps, four Specialist classes, and the seasonal rollout of new content, in Polygon’s preview story. Battlefield 2042, is coming to PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on Oct. 22, with versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One arriving the same day.
In April, DICE teased an imminent reveal of the game. Gabrielson said that the franchise’s “biggest team ever” — DICE’s studios in Gothenburg and Los Angeles are joined by Criterion Games this time — will deliver “a jaw-dropping experience for you to enjoy later in 2021.”
“I can tell you it is a bold step,” Gabrielson said. “It has everything we love about Battlefield — and takes all of it to the next level. Epic scale. All-out military warfare. Crazy, unexpected moments. Game-changing destruction. Massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before. All brought to life with the power of next-gen consoles and PCs.”
EA and DICE promise to reveal more about Battlefield 2042 in a gameplay reveal trailer on Sunday, June 13.
