Pokemon GO Shiny Poliwag: How to catch Shiny Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath and Politoed?

Pokemon GO is hosting another special event this week, this time in Yokohama in Japan.

Similar to events in Chicago and Dortmund, the event itself will feature a set of special research for fans locally to enjoy and make the most of.

Yokohama is also unique in that the event runs across three parks (Yamashita Park, Rinko Park, Akarenga Park) from August 6 – 12, 2019.

What is interesting to note though, is that the event has introduced a new Shiny Pokemon to the game. Well, technically four shiny pokemon when you take into consideration all of the possible evolutions too.

Earlier today Pokemon GO added Shiny Poliwag and the Gen 1 tadpole pokemon is available to catch worldwide in its shiny form.

Although, obviously those in Yokohama might have an easier time catching the new shiny.

Read on, we'll explain everything you need to know about catching the games new Shiny Pokemon, including how to get its new shiny evolutions: Poliwhirl, Poliwrath and Politoed.

At the time of writing, we can say for certain that your best bet of encountering a shiny Poliwag will be in the wild.

Equally, it's worth remembering that it's not possible to encounter a Shiny Poliwhirl, Poliwrath or Politoed in the wild, in eggs or in raid battles.

So if you want a complete set, you'll need to capture at least four shiny Poliwag's. Then you'll need enough candy to evolve said Pokemon as well as 1 King's Rock if you want to evolve a Politoed.

Keep reading as we've broken down all of the potential ways you might be able to encounter a Shiny Poliwag moving forward.

Egg Hatches:

At the time of writing, Poliwag is currently available in 5km eggs.

Raid Battles:

At the time of writing, Poliwag is not currently available to fight and catch as a raid boss.

In the Wild:

Poliwag is spawning in the wild, with slightly increased rates for the duration of the Yokohama event. However, to increase your chances of encountering a shiny, you want to go somewhere spawning as many Poliwag as possible.

We'd suggest that to boost your chances you should head over to the Silph Road Global Nest Atlas to find your nearest Poliwag nest, because obviously, the more Poliwag you encounter, the higher your odds of eventually encountering a shiny.
