The Brazilian esports promotion group BBL (Bad Boy Leeroy) announced Tuesday that it has closed a deal with Allegro Pacaembu, the company that manages the historic soccer stadium Paulo Machado de Carvalho (colloquially known as Pacaembu Stadium) located in São Paulo.
At a press event Tuesday attended by The Esports Observer BBL provided details on the deal.
The project, named Pacaembu Esports Arena, will be a structure built inside the Pacaembu especially to host battle royale competitions, such as Fortnite and Free Fire. The structure will support 100 simultaneous players, making it the largest battle royale arena in the world, and will feature a huge (482 square meters) LED structure, and seating for 2,000 spectators, in the 3,000 square meter building.
It is predicted that an early stage, but fully functional structure will be ready by Apr. 27, 2021. The final structure will be finished by 2023. The investment at the project is predicted at $95M BRL ($17.5M USD).
The Pacaembu Esports Arena is part of a renovation project led by Allegro Pacaembu to renew the stadium and broaden its use by the public. The company, willing to include esports in the project, got in touch with BBL to bring its expertise into it.
The arena is open for a sector naming rights sponsorship, which may not be the same brand that will name the whole stadium in the future. Although it is focused on battle royale games, the structure will also be available for different esports and third party events.
