Bilibili Secures Exclusive Chinese Broadcasting Rights to International League of Legends Competitions

Chinese live-streaming platform Bilibili entered into a three-year strategic partnership with League of Legends developer Riot Games, which grants the platform exclusive broadcasting rights in China to the League of Legends World Championship, Mid-Season Invitational, and All-Star event. The deal kicks off with the World Championship starting in September in Shanghai, China, and ends with the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational.

Bilibili will produce exclusive live-streamed and on-demand content for LoL Esports, Riot Games’ global esports brand, for its Chinese audience. Bilibili announced that such content will include esports documentaries and supporting programs around its coverage of the international League of Legends competitions.

Finally, Bilibili will host a series of offline esports events in collaboration with Riot Games China to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the League of Legends World Championship.

Riot Games is wholly owned by Chinese internet conglomerate Tencent. Tencent is also the largest shareholder in Bilibili with an 18% stake and a controlling shareholder in Bilibili’s main competitors in the Chinese live-streaming market, Huya and DouYu.
