After speaking with the Founder and CEO of Cloud9 Jack Etienne Friday, The Esports Observer can confirm that the North American esports organization is set to pause its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive operation and bench its rostered players. Benched players will be free to pursue other opportunities in the interim, according to Etienne.
Etienne said that the reason for the pause in operations of its CS:GO roster was because the COVID-19 pandemic has not allowed the team to practice together and in an environment conducive to providing the squad the best opportunities to win.
While Etienne did confirm that the team will be benched, he was adamant in emphasizing that this would not be the end of Cloud9 CS:GO, but that the organization would need to wait until a time when travel restrictions were more lenient and practices could happen under one facility.
“We will return to NA CS:GO when conditions are favorable,” said Etienne.
