CS:GO dying? Shroud backtracks & clarifies his thoughts

In mid-October Shroud shocked many of his veteran fans when he stated “CS is undeniably dying” during a live broadcast. This was part of a larger discussion in which he and another got into a discussion off the back of 100 Thieves’ departure from Counter-Strike.

“NA just died in CS, hard. And in my opinion, that’s a big L to the community, to lose NA. Because I think they brought so much hype, and so much excitement into the game and scene, so for that to be lost kind of sucks,” Shroud said.

“CS is undeniably dying, and yet players are still getting paid like $40,000 a month,” he went on to say. “30, 40 grand. I don’t understand where this money is coming from and how it’s still pumping.”

While many took that comment as his declaration of a dying game, he’s now clarified he meant he was referring to “NA CS at a competitive level.”

“Do you think CS is dying? No no no, I don’t think CS is dying, I think NA CS at a competitive level has died a little bit and that’s just fact,” he said.

He doesn’t place the blame of the previous comments misunderstanding on just the audience, however, and while further clarifying states it may have been a misinterpretation of his own.

“I don’t think CS is dying by no means, I think CS is very popular still, hundred percent it is. But that’s cool, throw some words in my mouth why don’t ya. Or, maybe you didn’t throw words in my mouth, maybe I misinterpreted what I said because it is very clear the NA CS is hurting,” he explained. “Might not be dead, but NA CS is definitely hurting, which makes me sad, we were doing so well.”

The retired professional may not believe North American Counter-Strike has maintained its place as a growing contender, but the undeniable death of Counter-Strike is not something he stands behind. What do you think?
