While the Dota Pro Circuit League Season 1 officially kicked off yesterday, for the Chinese region, the upper bracket begun today, with two series which had the potential for some big early upsets.
Yesterday we saw the lower division of the DPC League Season kick off in China with some rather interesting early results, including a loss for Royal Never Give Up as Sparking Arrow Gaming seemed to possibly have found their form again. However, moving away from that, the upper division begun today as we had two best-of-three series to get through – Vici Gaming versus LBZS and EHOME versus Team MagMa – both of which had the possibility of early upsets from the two closed qualifier squads.
VG and LBZS kicked things off, with the former easily being the favourites considering their strong and well-known roster. While that was the case, LBZS clearly had something to prove going into the series as they dominated their opponent for over 45-minutes – but that, unfortunately, was not enough. As the game progressed, the experience of VG definitely showed as they turned around a 30,000+ net worth disadvantage to claim game one, destroying the hopes of LBZS. Game two saw a deflated LBZS unable to contest anything as VG rolled over them, giving them a 2-0 series victory.
For LBZS, things won’t get any easier either as they find themselves facing PSG.LGD in two days, while VG get a break until January 26th, when they face MagMa.
On the topic of MagMa, they were the closed qualifier entrant in the day’s second series, with EHOME being their opponents. After seeing LBZS almost take a game off of Vici Gaming, MagMa would be hoping to do the same and close things out – but that was far from the case in game one. EHOME took control of the game early on and never let off the gas as they raced away to a 30-8 win in only 32-minutes. While game two was far better for MagMa, especially in the early stages, as they even held a solid lead, Lai “Ahjit” Jay Son’s Morphling was far too much for them to deal with as they went down to a 0-2 loss.
Both teams will have a small break for a few days, but for MagMa, things will only get tougher as VG will be their next opponent – while EHOME face off against Invictus Gaming on January 31st. With that, the first day of upper division action from the China DPC League Season 1 comes to an end but will return on Thursday with LGD’s first series against LBZS.
