Virtus.Pro have just announced a second team.
Despite the fact that Valve postponed the DPC due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the professional Dota 2 scene hasn’t stopped. In fact, there are loads of online events, each of which is amazing to watch.
Apart from that, there are also a lot of roster changes going on, which is typical for this time of the year. However, something happened that no one expected to see. Virtus.Pro, arguably the most legendary CIS organization, decided to make a second Dota 2 team. That’s right, in addition to their main team where you can find players like Vladimir “No[o]ne” Minenko and Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok, VP will now try to support a second team.
Who’s in it?
The name of the new team will be VP.Prodigy and it will have the following team members;
- Egor “epileptick1d” Grigorenko
- Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin
- Vitaly “Save-” Melnik
- Abert “yume” Garaev
- Rostislav “fn” Lozovoy
Perhaps the most striking name here is epileptick1d. As you know, Grigorenko used to be the carry player for VP’s main team until a few weeks ago. However, due to bad results, a decision was made to remove him from the team.
Everyone thought that the talented player would try his luck elsewhere. Nevertheless, it seems like VP had other plans for him, which is why they’ve decided to put him in the second team.
According to VP’s General Manager, “the thought of the second lineup” first started in January. The idea behind it is to allow young players to gather the needed experience and knowledge, without having to deal with the pressure of “instant result expectation”.
The long-term goal behind this lineup is to either replace some of the players from the main team or the entire team as a whole, as long as VP.Prodigy is living up to the expectations. The name “Prodigy” was chosen because it means “a young and talented person”. Needless to say, that’s what VP thinks about all of the players who are on this roster.
It will be very interesting to see what will happen with this new roster. On paper, they definitely have what it takes to put up a challenge. However, they are yet to prove themselves, which is easier said than done. That said, as long as they are able to keep up with the other tier-one teams, their success is imminent.
