China’s ESL One Birmingham 2020 Online group stage came to
an end earlier today and the top two teams from each group have progressed into
the playoff bracket, while the rest have been eliminated.
Since Tuesday, the ESL One Birmingham Online: China group
stage has been ongoing, with eight teams from the region fighting to make it
into the playoffs and play for a prize pool of $55,000. Earlier today, the group
stages came to an end and with that, four of the eight teams have been
eliminated from the event, while the other four progressed into the upper
bracket playoffs.
For Group A, it was PSG.LGD who looked extremely strong once again, going unbeaten in their three series and only dropping a single game today in their matchup with Royal Never Give Up – who were unbeaten up until this point. While they did lose, RNG would end up as the second seed in the group, leaving both Team Aster and Longinus in the elimination zone.
In Group B, CDEC Gaming claimed all the spoils, going unbeaten with only a single game loss as well, much like LGD. Invictus Gaming and EHOME were both in line to take the second seed spot – with EHOME having recently won the Dota 2 Professional League Season 1 just a few days ago. However, the EHOME squad were unable to come through today and iG would be victorious, while Sparking Arrow Gaming ended in dead last.
The playoffs for ESL One Birmingham Online: China are still
nearly five days away, but the upper bracket series are:
- PSG.LGD versus Invictus Gaming
- CDEC Gaming versus Royal Never Give Up
Without the likes of Vici Gaming in the event, it may be
possible for LGD to finally take a huge step in the right direction in their journey
back to solid form – but CDEC, iG and RNG are definitely all ready to give them
a serious challenge.
