Mobile games developer Supercell announced details on how the Clash Royale League (CRL), its Clash Royale esports league, will function during the 2021 season, including the total prize pool and an adjusted format that caters to individual competitors.
According to a report from Dot Esports, Supercell said that the new format will ditch the team format in favor of an open, global format geared towards individual free-for-all combat. The competition will be broken up into eight seasons with each featuring a royal rumble, monthly qualifying events, and a monthly final.
Every month, 1K players from the Rumble event will advance to the monthly qualifying round. Supercell has earmarked a total of $600K USD for the monthly competitions. Players who make it to monthly qualifiers and finals will earn qualification points to decide who the best 32 players in the world are.
Those 32 players will advance to the CRL World Finals 2021. Points and standings will be determined in the first seven months of competition, with the eighth month dedicated to deciding the final eight players allowed into the World Finals. Standings will be tracked via a global online leaderboard. Supercell has earmarked $1M for the 2021 finals.
