Legends of Runeterra might have only officially released earlier this year, but Riot Games is already looking towards future set releases and expansions. Game director Andrew Yip (sporting a brand new haircut) and executive producer Jeff Jew discussed how future set releases will roll out. Both Yip and Jew also discussed how in-game events will be added to the game and how passes will work with these events.

Legends of Runeterra set and expansion release schedule
Riot Games has an aggressive release schedule planned out to keep Legends of Runeterra growing. “Our goal is to release more cards, more frequently,” said Jew. “Creating back-to-back waves of new mechanics and champions.”
In August, Riot Games plans to release the next region to the game. New champions and supporting cards will be joining the game. Every two months afterward, a smaller pool of cards will be released. Every six months a new region will be released, with the next one scheduled for February 2021. After that, August 2021 will be the next region expansion, with smaller releases in-between both of them.
Mysteriously, Yip followed up this announcement with “no spoilers on what happens after that.”
Legends of Runeterra events, rewards, and more
Coming this July, events are a way for players to earn more rewards just for playing. Periodically, Riot Games will have thematic events that will provide unique gameplay experiences for players. These events will have new cosmetic bundles, quests, and the also revealed Gauntlets and Labs.
During events, players will have chances to earn limited-time rewards. These events will have accompanying passes that players can purchase. While Riot Games did not reveal what these passes will look like, they are likely similar to the passes available for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. Players will have to pass through progression milestones, earning better rewards for the paid pass than the free one. Rewards will likely include emotes, guardians, card backs, and potentially boards as well.
Other changes coming to the game include a reworking of the Masters rank, improvements to the deck builder, in-game leaderboards, and a spectator mode. Make sure to stay tuned to Daily Esports for all your Legends of Runeterra news, updates, and more.
