Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas has officially announced his decision to leave Counter-Strike as he looks to pursue a professional career in VALORANT. Mixwell follows other players such as Spencer “Hiko” Martin, Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan, and more in making the jump to Riot’s new first-person shooter.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to compete in your game @CSGO, thanks for all the good and bad moments that I will never forget, I am who I am today because of you,” he said in a tweet making the decision.
Mixwell will be serving as the captain and first-ever member of G2 Esports’ VALORANT division. The 24-year-old had been without a team in CS:GO since he departed the Cloud9 lineup following the lineup breaking apart due to Damian “daps” Steele, Kenneth “koosta” Suen and Timothy “autimatic” Ta leaving to join Gen.G.
Throughout his career, Mixwell had tried his hand at several Spanish lineups before ultimately going international. He would eventually land on OpTic where he made a name for himself as a top level AWPer. The lineup ended up winning ELEAGUE Season 2 and finishing second at the ECS Season 2 Finals. Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz’s decision to leave the roster for Liquid would ultimately lead to the rosters break down.
Mixwell continued to try international mixes before returning to a Spanish lineup with Movistar Riders. Unfortunately the squad was unable to deliver much in terms of results and this would lead him to the aforementioned Cloud9 lineup of which only saw the team attend four LANs.
VALORANT continues to gain former and current CS:GO professionals as breaking into a tier 1 or even 2 team in the latter seems tougher than it’s ever been.
