Ninjas in Pyjamas have officially released Saahil “UNIVERSE” Arora from their active roster because of the limits the recent COVID-19 pandemic has put on the team. Ninjas in Pyjamas stated that their decision was made to “ensure practice and competition.”
UNIVERSE has been released from his spot as the position three player in Ninjas in Pyjamas. No fill-in players have been stated in the public post, and UNIVERSE himself gave no comment.
Ninjas in Pyjamas further cemented its reason behind it’s decision to boot UNIVERSE out of the roster despite Ti10 being four months away, saying:
“A fundamental part of our Dota 2 strategy is to build towards a core of players that can last way beyond the short term TI cycles. The prevailing situation in competitive Dota 2 forces us all to reevaluate how to run a team and requires a more regionalized approach for the foreseeable future. Due to the situation with COVID-19 and the consequent move to regional competition, we are forced to restructure our line-up in Dota 2 to ensure continued practice and competition.”
Lastly, Jonas Gundersen, COO of Ninjas in Pyjamas focused his sentiments about the situation to a brighter angle by talking about positivity, future opportunities, and a continuous strive to pursue bigger goals.
“We’ll keep searching for the right lineup, with the right combination of hunger, skill and winner mentality, while further applying our own vision of performance culture to it,” he stated. “Dota 2 is a game and community we believe a lot in, and we’re excited to see what the future brings, with all the potential changes coming.”
What does this mean for UNIVERSE?
UNIVERSE will be in a tight spot considering Ti10 is four months away. Additionally, with the COVID-19 pandemic putting in-person interaction on freeze, finding a team, and synergizing until the teamwork aspect has been perfected will be close to impossible. UNIVERSE has a short period to make a miracle happen, but until then, a former International winner like him has his opportunities just as widely open as Ninjas in Pyjamas. However, even if he can’t qualify, he’ll always be able to support his younger brother, Sumail, and his brother’s new team OG just the same.
