North American esports organization NRG Esports has joined forces with Vietnamese fitness, lifestyle, and entertainment company CMG.ASIA to launch a new esports management and media company based in Southeast Asia. The new entity, called NRG Asia, has acquired professional Vietnamese League of Legends team and current regional champion GAM Esports from Singapore-based Yup.gg.
The new venture will be led by brothers TK and Dru Nguyen, co-founders of Vietnamese hospitality company See The World Group, with TK serving as CEO and Dru in the COO role. NRG Asia will be headquartered in Vietnam. According to a release, the company intends to provide GAM with the resources to compete for a League of Legends World Championship title.
Although the team has been successful locally, Vietnam has been unable to send a representative to international events since 2019 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
