China Dota 2 Pro Cup Season 1marked the first tournament for all the Chinese teams after they exit the autumn shuffle. Held across two weeks and ending with three days of LAN matches, the tournament gave a chance to all those who made drastic roster changes to see where they stand now in the domestic scene and so far, PSG.LGD seem to be winners of the shuffle.
With basically a full new line-up, PSG.LGD started the playoffs from the upper bracket after an overall 6-3 game score in the group play. However, once they entered the straight line to the grand finals, they claimed the trophy without dropping a single match, ending the playoffs run with a 9-0 score. Vici Gaming, Royal Never Give Up and EHOME, all had a shot at stopping PSG.LGD’s winning streak, but to no avail.
EHOME had in fact two opportunities to take down PSG.LGD. After they lost the opening playoffs series, they bounced back through the lower bracket rounds, but unfortunately, they couldn’t challenge PSG.LGD at all in the best-of-five grand finals.
While they insisted to open their bans with Techies, to deny Zhao “XinQ” Zixing from playing what is one of his favorite heroes these days, they got dismantled in game one by a Riki core combined with Oracle and the global presence of Zeus. With Techies banned in the second game as well, XinQ had another surprise in store for EHOME and played a support Faceless Void, which created the perfect combo with Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida on an offlane Snapfire. EHOME fell rapidly behind under the PSG.LGD pressure applied not only by the deadly combo but also by an empowered Phantom Assassin and a support Visage.
Game three also started in a disastrous manner for EHOME, who at the 15 minute mark were already led with nearly 10k gold and had no real options to stop PSG.LG from taking objectives and asserting map dominance. The grand finals series ended in less than two hours with PSG.LGD taking a clean 3-0 victory and $40,000 for their first tournament in the new formula.
