Riot Games have officially announced the VALORANT Ignition Series. The global tournament series is Riot’s first step toward building the esports ecosystem for their newly released 5v5 tactical shooter.
“We’re thrilled to pull together the best from gaming and esports to deliver a program that will showcase VALORANT on a global scale,” said Whalen Rozelle, Senior Director of Esports at Riot Games in the official press release. “The Ignition Series will unlock the creative potential of some of our top partners and will help us build an esport from the ground up that is authentic to the VALORANT community.”
To kick things off, Riot has formed a partnership with over 20 esports organizations. These organizations will be looking to “create unique competitive events around the world.” The first two events will be the European G2 Esports Invitational and the RAGE VALORANT Japan Invitational which are set to kick off on June 19th and run through the 21st.
According to Riot, fans can expect events to take place in North America, Brazil, Latin America, Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Europe, Russia, Turkey, and the Middle East. Those in Southeast Asia can expect details regarding events taking place in July and August “in the weeks to come.”
VALORANT fans and players can expect each event to be a little different in how they’re handled. “Variations that will include competitive open qualifiers, show matches, and invitationals with top players, established personalities, and aspiring amateurs,” are set to take place all around the world.
