From the physical world to the virtual, Shane van Gisbergen is always a champion. A few months ago, when all IRL events ground to a halt, the Australian Supercars took to the digital realm. Using iRacing, Supercars designed a virtual series for drivers, fans, pros, and amateurs. After 10 rounds and 31 races, the BP Supercars All Stars E-Series is now complete. Shane van Gisbergen from New Zealand has claimed the title.

Shane van Gisbergen E-Series champion
He’s been the champion in the Virgin Australia Supercars Series. He competes regularly on iRacing. Now, van Gisbergen is the winner of the BP Supercars All Stars E-Series. Many drivers made an appearance throughout the series. Formula 1, IndyCar, and NASCAR international stars came along. Top it off with Aussie legends, Super 2 drivers, and even some wildcards from iRacing fans and competitors. With each race, many drivers improved, but it all came down to van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin for the final round. Van Gisbergen went into round 10 with a 78-point lead over fellow kiwi McLaughlin. He qualified on pole (1st position) for the first race of round 10 and came home with the win. Van Gisbergen ended the series with a total of 14 race wins.
As predicted in our pre-series update, drivers who regularly compete in sim racing fared far better than those who only drive IRL. Not only was van Gisbergen the winner, but other notable sim-racing drivers were also on the podium. IRacing competitor, Twitch streamer, and Supercars driver Scott McLaughlin came in second. Anton De Pasquale, who also spends a lot of time in the sim, came home with third place.

What’s next?
As restrictions in Australia begin to ease, many events are starting to return to normal. The Australian Rules Football has already resumed. The Supercars Series is set to recommence on track in Sydney June 27. As the series currently sits, McLauglin holds the lead, with van Gisbergen in 13th. While IRL racing resumes, fans are questioning what will become of the E-Series. Will the series continue alongside IRL racing? It’s been a hot topic of conversation among motorsport fans to have mid-week racing available for viewing. This could be a way to provide content to motorsport fans, sim racing enthusiasts, and gamers alike. Whatever the plans are for the E-Series, we will all have to wait and see. Keep an eye out here and on the official Supercars Twitter page for updates.
