Details on the first season of the South America regional league have been published on liquipedia. The four directly invited teams to the Upper Division have been also added, along with the league format.
In what was rather expected, beastcoast, Thunder Predator, Infamous and SG-esports are the four handpicked squads seeded by Valve for the Upper Division. While beastcoast and Thunder Predator have been clearly the two SA dominant teams through 2020, Infamous started to pick up their form though the last quarter of the year, and beginning with BTS Pro Series Season 3: Americas they constantly finished in top 3 of the combined NA and SA competitions.
On the other hand, SG-esports have just made a return to the competitive Dota 2 scene by signing the Team Brasil stack mid-December 2020.
South America regional league season 1 will be hosted by OGA Dota PIT and will begin on the 18th of January, along with other five regional competitions. Eight more squads will receive in the coming days invites to the closed qualifiers. Top four of the said qualifier campaign will be joining the Upper Division already invited teams, while the bottom four will head to the Lower Division along with four squads coming from open qualifiers.
Per Valve announcement, just the top two teams from the SA Upper Division will make the cut to the first Major of the year, which was announced to take place March 25th – April 4th.
