Team SoloMid (TSM) will enter the Indian esports market through a partnership with Entity Gaming. The PUBG MOBILE squad of Entity Gaming, which placed first in last year’s PUBG MOBILE Club Open (PMCO) Asia Fall and later fifth in the global finals, will henceforth play as “TSM Entity.” Financial terms between the two organizations were not disclosed.
“We are deeply grateful to the Indian community which has showered their tremendous love on our players over the months. We understand that we have a responsibility with these levels of achievements, and that is to bring an international trophy home. We believe this partnership will be a monumental step in that direction,” said Neerav Rukhana, CEO of Entity Gaming, adding that the company’s plans will eventually include other mobile games.
PUBG MOBILE, the phone-based spinoff of the South Korean battle royale game, has developed an esports life of its own. Publisher Tencent Games has planned a $5M USD prize pool ecosystem for 2020, announcing in December 2019 that the game had crossed $1B in revenue. The title holds a strong cultural pedestal in India in particular, where internet use ranks second globally.
TSM’s exploration of the Indian market follows on from Fnatic, which also acquired a PUBG MOBILE team and is looking to build out a gaming facility and dedicated staff.
