After 23 Years, The Original Postal Game Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch will see the release of POSTAL Redux, a remake of the original isometric shoot ’em up video game developed by Running With Scissors that was launched in 1997. POSTAL Redux, the first game in the series to get a console port thanks to MD Games, will feature new levels and a new gameplay mode called Rampage.

Rampage, which replaces the Gauntlet Mode, is a score-based arcade mode in which you are judged on your ability to efficiently and quickly kill enemies with a variety of weapons. Other factors include how much ground you cover on the map and how fast you are able to reach the exit. The levels in Rampage, which are remixed from the campaign, encourage a more violent playstyle. Players are ultimately graded from A+ to F.

According to Vince Desi, founder of Running With Scissors, “Over 20 years ago, we had no clue the impact POSTAL would have had on society and gaming history. POSTAL coming out on SWITCH is our dream come true. On behalf of everyone at RWS we give thanks to our fans for the many years of support. We’re just getting started.”

The POSTAL franchise has had several hits and misses. Although the first two installments received mixed reviews, Postal III was panned by critics and fans of the series when it was released in 2011. Running with Scissors eventually admitted that the game didn’t fit into the general image of the franchise, saying, “We don’t regard it as the third Postal game, just a dodgy spin-off that should never have happened.”

In addition, New Zealand banned POSTAL 2 due to its violent content and threatened fines for anyone who sold or owned a copy. After the financial failure of POSTAL III, ports of the game to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were canceled. Meanwhile, POSTAL: Brain Damaged, an official spin-off of the series, is set to arrive on consoles in late 2021. Nintendo Switch will release POSTAL Redux on October 16.
