Bungie Is Sticking With Remote Work Forever

Bungie was one of the first studios to announce its switch to work-from-home during the early days of the pandemic, and now it’s going “all in” with a new “digital-first” mandate.

"Bungie is going digital-first," the Destiny 2 developer announced on Twitter. "Most current and future roles will be fully remote eligible in these states with more coming soon!" The studio also linked several new jobs for remote workers in Washington, California, Oregon, Illinois, Florida, North Carolina, and Texas.

"Over the past two years, we have redefined how we work at Bungie," added Bungie CEO Pete Parsons. "The transition to work-from-home wasn’t easy, but the results speak for themselves. Today, it’s clear that a digital-first workplace isn’t the future of work – it is already here, and We. Are. All. In."

In its announcement in March 2020, Bungie said that it was prepared for the new realities of remote work thanks to infrastructure supporting work-from-home already in place. Other companies' productivity suffered while Bungie's soared. The move to remote work forever is still an oddity among major video game developers, where some are still making the transition to work-from-home while others are forcing employees to return to the office.

As noted by GamesIndustry.biz, Bungie community manager Liana Ruppert made it clear that employees are free to return to the office if they wish, provided they're vaccinated. "Bungie has kept us in the loop throughout the [work-from-home] process, and while there is the option to go into the office (proof of vax and a health screening is required and provided), largely there has not been pressure to do so."

In other Bungie news, besides job listings for Destiny 2 remote work, there’s also a new listing for a producer with experience in “animation” and “scripted television.” Fans think this could be the first real hint that there’s a Destiny animated series in the works, but Bungie hasn’t made an official announcement.
