Having delayed everything by a day, it won’t be long before Black Ops fans can jump into Call of Duty Cold War Season 5.
The latest expansion from Treyarch boasts four new weapons to unlock and five new multiplayer maps to master on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
That’s without mentioning the new content coming to Zombies mode, including fresh perks and challenges to complete.
Meanwhile, Call of Duty Warzone will also benefit from the launch of Season 5, sharing the same weapons and Battle Pass, along with new map features and a long-rumoured event.
And there will also be plenty of background changes made, which might not catch as many headlines.
But even though there might be less chatter about annoying bugs being squashed, gamers will want to know about any weapon tweaks.
Treyarch uses the start of a new season to fine-tune the weaponry available, with some being nerfed and others being buffed.
And Season 5 will be no different, with today’s Cold War Season 5 patch notes confirming everything that is being planned in that department. It will take a little time for some of these changes to sink in, including the more subtle tweaks in item stats.
With the start of Season Five, Treyarch has confirmed that they will be making some tuning adjustments to several assault rifles, two SMGs, and all Dual Wield pistols. These include the XM4, QBZ-83, FFAR 1, Groza, FARA 83, C58, KSP 45, and LC10.
Assault Rifles are getting a reduction in Suppressor attachment Bullet Velocity penalties for all ARs to better focus on their potential for damage at long ranges. This includes the following stat changes:
- Reduced Bullet Velocity penalty on Agency Suppressor attachment from -30% to -15%.
- Reduced Bullet Velocity penalty on Suppressor attachment from -15% to -8%.
The XM4 is another gun seeing some changes during Season 5, with Treyarch choosing to add several new adjustments to assist with its handling.
“As one of our more popular weapons, the XM4 sees plenty of usage from experts and less experienced players alike, so we’ve made changes to specific attachments to appeal to players of all skill levels. Players may want to experiment with new attachment combinations after this update to find the sweet spot that works for them.”
FFAR1 is getting buffed during Season 5 to make it fit the role of a close range aggressor, with Treyarch confirming in the patch notes:
Call of Duty release Black Ops Cold War gameplay trailer
“We’ve given the weapon additional high-damage potential at short range while retaining its original damage values for mid- to long-range combat.
“Hip fire has also been improved to help with short-range encounters. As a result, several of its Barrel attachments have also been adjusted. These changes allow a skilled player to leverage the FFAR 1’s shorter-range capabilities for a more versatile play style.”
