Something is happening over in Raccoon City. A new teaser on Twitter claims an announcement will be made soon regarding the Resident Evil series. While this announcement could be several things, the most likely suspects involve news on an upcoming remake or the reveal of some suspected DLC. Luckily, fans won’t have to wait long as the news will be revealed sometime on February 15.
News of the announcement comes from the Japanese Twitter account for Resident Evil. Early on Valentine’s Day, they tweeted out two posts, one in Japanese and the other in English. The translation reads "oh, there’s something suspicious activity going on at the Resident Evil portal. It seems that this was the reason why all the staff around me worked busy lately. There’s something going on tomorrow at 4 PM (JST) (2 AM EST), so we hope you all enjoy it!”
The tweet was accompanied by a mostly obscured image. The red and black appearance is reminiscent of the franchise's “You Are Dead” screen and a few letters can be seen. Behind the words “History” and “Coming Soon,” the Resident Evil 2 logo is displayed along with some other obscured images and words. With “History” displayed at the top as a header, this news may be a compendium of sorts for fans to read through the zombie-infested city’s history.
However, one of the more popular theories about what this announcement is involves the series’ most recent entry, Resident Evil Village. With news of DLC for the game already confirmed by Capcom last year, many feel that this will finally reveal what type of DLC we will be getting. Here is hoping for more Castle Dimitrescu goodness.
Another popular theory running around the Internet is that this news will concern the rumored Resident Evil 4 Remake. While Capcom has not made an official announcement regarding the remake, several outlets are reporting that the studio is deep in development on it. This announcement may be an official reveal for the remake everyone seems to desperately want.
This announcement comes after a mysterious timer appeared on Capcom’s website. While that timer still has around six days left and this Resident Evil news will be revealed before then, it may be a timer to a release date for whatever this news turns out to be. The only thing left to do is to sit, wait, and speculate wildly.
