With Crash Bandicoot and Spyro having done so well, the head of British developer Argoanut says he’d be in favour of a return for Croc.
Ever since the success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane trilogy remakes other companies will have been searching their back catalogues for other 3D platformers to remake for the modern era – especially after Spyro The Dragon was a hit as well.
There’re rumours that Nintendo is planning to remake several of its 3D Super Mario titles, but one much more obscure option is PlayStation game Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos.
Although nothing’s been formally announced former Argonaut CEO Jez San did suddenly reply to a year old tweet about the game, saying that he’d like to remake it and that, ‘I get inbound all the time from folks that want to do it. One day…’
Those rumours don’t stand up to much scrutiny though, given the time frames involved and the fact that the two games have little in common, with Croc using tank controls in the time before analogue sticks were added to the PlayStation controller.
It is an interesting throwback to the dawn of 3D gaming though and there was a more refined sequel released in 1999.
Why the fan asking the question is so adamant it shouldn’t be Activision doing the remake is puzzling though, given how well the Crash and Spyro remakes turned out, especially as they had to be created from scratch rather than being remasters.
That’s the kind of effort that would be needed for Croc and for that reason alone it’s unlikely to happen, especially as it’s unclear who actually owns the rights, given Jez San never confirms if its him or not.
