So you are finally here – the “final” confrontation with the person who murdered your sister and caused everyone so much pain. It’s time to go toe-to-toe with the all-powerful Anamnesis. The Dark Princess. The Eater of Souls. Crystar's Big Bad.

Unfortunately, she’s a total letdown. Hours of build-up, a seemingly endless army of devout followers, and all we get is this wet wipe. Anamnesis is the definition of a narrative boss fight, and she falls victim to the same weaknesses all humanoid bosses succumb to. The hardest part about Anamnesis is spelling her name correctly.

Anamnesis’ Attacks

Anamnesis has one attack, and that attack is used so infrequently, you might not see it before she dies. Anamnesis will perform a single basic melee attack if you are at just the right distance from her. If you are too close, she will move away to use it. If you are too far away, she will move closer.

What this means is, Anamnesis can be beaten senseless, and she won’t do a thing if you are right up in her face. This is very similar to Unknown Alpha and Beta, only she is actually less effective than them. Shockingly so, in fact.

Preparing For Battle

Which Characters To Use

What makes the Anamnesis fight so baffling, is how they managed to make Kokoro, a mostly useless addition to the party, a viable beatstick for this fight. Kokoro may be the best character when it comes to killing Anamnesis, and this is because her basic three-hit combo ends in a launcher.

This is important because Anamnesis can be launched, and therefore, is susceptible to aerial combos. Kokoro can knock her up, follow her, smack her in the air, and then smash her into the ground. Whilst she is standing up, Kokoro can land two heavy attacks before continuing her combo.

The other characters are great in this fight too, although Nanana leaves a bit to be desired due to her ranged move-set. Kokoro is where it’s at this time.

What Skills To Use

You don’t need any skills for this fight. Kokoro is your go-to, and Kokoro’s basic attacks do more than enough damage. Her skills simply don’t do enough for the charge time required to pull them off.

Pick Up Some Items

The most important items to have on you for this fight are Panellets. These will boost Kokoro’s ATK, and end the fight much quicker. You can also use this time to restock your healing, even though Anamnesis will struggle to get a single swing in. A peddler can be found at the start of most levels, and before most boss fights.

Max Your Tear Gauge

Since you have access to your full party for this fight, you should go in with a party maxed out on Tears. This will allow you to use your Guardians right away, and this will deal significant damage to Anamnesis. Remember Nanana’s Guardian is ranged-based but deals more damage if you are closer to your intended target.

Battle Strategy

The strategy is simple for this one. Start the fight then burn all of your Guardians in a flurry of death. Anamnesis will survive this onslaught but should be pretty beaten up. Swap to Kokoro and get right in Anamnesis’ face. Once here, land your basic Light attack combo to launch Anamnesis. Jump into the air and do another three-hit combo, before landing. Whilst Anamnesis on her back, use two Heavy attacks. Rinse and repeat.

If Anamnesis manages to fall back far enough to attack, move in closer and pull off your combo again. If Kokoro builds enough Tears to activate her Guardian a second time, do it. This will give you a nice boost to your damage. Remember to eat a Panellet with Kokoro to deal even more damage during this fight.

With Anamnesis down, you can move on to harder encounters.
